I am making rice pudding right now. I've never made it before; I've never eaten it before; hell, I've never even seen it before. But all of a sudden, I got it in my head to make rice pudding, so I went and bought some medium grain rice -shortest grain they had at the grocery store- and a handful of other ingredients.

We shall see how this goes.

EDIT: OMG THIS IS DELICIOUS
Hylke and I just booked a trip to the Netherlands for October! Just a one week trip, but we're both pretty excited about it.

His brother emailed us this morning saying they were planning a bit to-do for his father's 60th birthday this year, so he just wanted to give us a good notice to try to be able to make it. We talked it over and decided that we could afford it, so I went ahead and booked the tickets just to be able to pay down the credit card as much as we can beforehand. His job in this is booking the hotel - we'll be staying somewhere Groningen; hopefully we can find a nice place in the city center.

So yeah, now it's just an eight month exercise in patience. :P
My guild just killed Putricide 25 last night!

Screenshot Below! )

Even though I'm normally dps (in this guild at least), we were a bit short tanks that night, so I tanked. Go me!

We're the 4th on server to get him down (grr, got beat for 3rd by about 15 minutes or something ridiculous like that). That puts our rank at 975 in the US and 2349 in the world! Not extremely impressive, but hey, it's pretty awesome to me!

So after technolusting after the Kindle for eons, I finally broke down and bought, well, not the Kindle but the Barnes & Noble nook. Or at least put in an order for one as they're currently back ordered. Mine should ship around February 12th. Hylke of course, had to get one too. He doesn't read as much as I do, but he loves shiny technology things and he has been reading more lately. Mostly Neil Gaiman. We decided to go with the nook because it allows users to lend books to each other, browse for free at Barnes & Noble stores (we have one just a few minutes away!), and other things we liked over the Kindle (sorry Amazon).

The only thing I really wish an ereader had was to somehow incorporate the dead tree books I already own, because I have so many I've yet to read. So I am currently spending most of my free time trying to catch up before they are rendered obsolete in about a month.

I'm also noticing a trend about the books I'm currently reading. I'm almost finished with Mary, Called Magdalene, and I have Abudance, a Novel of Marie Antoinette which I had dipped my toes into when I bought it on vacation. At work, I keep The Last Empress, having relatively recently finished reading Empress Orchid for lunch break reading. Anyways, I definitely recommend them all. That said, once I finish these, who knows. Probably those Gaiman books once Hylke is through with them.

So, I went to the doctor on Monday and got pretty much what I expected. Nothing is wrong except just general soreness from the accident, so the doctor gave me some painkillers and a muscle relaxer to help me sleep since the pain was keeping me awake. I'm still sore, but less so than earlier this week. At least today is Friday and this weekend is a three-day weekend, so I'll have a nice long time to relax.

I was also contacted by a couple of adjusters for the other driver's insurance, and had to tell what happened to each individually. It was kind of annoying and I'm pretty sure they were doing it to see if my story changed at all, but meh. They're paying for everything whether they like it or not, since the other driver admitted fault and was ticketed.

I got the rental car on Monday, it was 2010 Impala and I hated it. It was huge, ugly and impossible to drive. I went back Tuesday and they put me in a 2007 Focus. While still bigger than my car, it is at least in the same size category. I feel much more comfortable driving it. But I still want *my* car back.

I also got a call yesterday from the body shop where my car was towed, and they said that the adjuster had been out there and and looked at my car and had come to an agreement with well, someone out there at the body shop, so they were just calling me to confirm. I forgot to ask them how long the repairs would take.

And that's pretty much it.

Doctor appointment went much like I thought it would. They gave me some general painkillers for use during the day and a muscle relaxer to help me sleep at night. Doctor said just to take it easy and just keep an eye on the pain if it doesn't get better.

The other insurance company contacted me today. I had to tell them again what happened which was kind of annoying since I told them all this stuff just yesterday, but whatever. They're sending someone out to where the body shop where they towed my car to see what it would cost to fix it. And they're paying for a rental car for me, which I'll be going in about an hour to pick it up.

I've got a doctor appointment today at 1:45, wish me luck!
Yeah, I was in another car accident today. Hylke was driving, I was in the passenger seat, and we were driving down a normal highway here (as in, one lane each direction, blah blah) when the person in front of us slowed down and pulled over to the right onto the shoulder a bit. Then out of nowhere, swung back out around left like she was trying to do a U-turn. Yeah, our front passenger side (you know, where I was sitting) and her front driver side smashed together, and then we slid into the lane of oncoming traffic. Luckily, no one was coming from that way, but we did have traffic stopped for 45 minutes.

The other driver admitted fault, which will make things easier. I'm hoping that my car will be repaired soon and that her insurance will pay for a rental for me while this is happening.

I hurt. A lot. I'm also very cranky. Hylke says he feels fine, but we'll see tomorrow. I know from experience these can take a while. In an abundance of caution, he won't be playing soccer tomorrow like usual. I'm dreading waking up.
So I've managed to get all of the Yules/Anniversaries/Resurrections that I want ordered, though it has taken three different orders. :P

I CAN QUIT RED MUSK ANY TIME I WANT TO, OKAY? )

So I spent part of my evening drinking the last leftover bottle of champagne, watching a movie that was more gruesome and excessively violent than I thought it would be and then listening to a Bathory album that makes me slightly uncomfortable (Blood on Ice).

I usually don't keep my iPod headphones with me since I use my iPod for the apps (OMG FREE KINDLE APP YAY) instead of for listening to music. It seems however, that I cannot remember where I have stashed the headphones, and it annoys the hell out of me. Boo.

I will have to tear the apartment apart tonight looking for them.

So despite the freaky weather conditions, we made it to my parents' place in one piece. And of course, the first thing we did was open presents. Yay presents!

Hylke loved his presents, I got him Fallout3: Game of the Year Edition for our ps3 and Secret Agent Clank for his psp. I got my parents a bluray player to go with the new hdtv that my brother bought them, and since both my parents have birthdays relatively near Christmas, I got them each a bluray movie, Star Trek for my dad and Up for my mom. My sister bought my dad the new Terminator movie on bluray too, which he watched last night. My sister liked the Zelda game I bought her for her nintendo ds, but said she needs to beat the first one before she can play it. XD David is another one to have the misfortune to have a birthday near Christmas, and since he didn't mention that he wanted anything, I just got him a BestBuy gift card; he said he planned to buy some of the Halo extras with it.

I got that (relatively) new The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun that was recently published by Christopher Tolkien and two bottles of perfume from Hylke. From the rest of the family, we got money and gift cards, and I'm perfectly okay with that. XD

This morning, we're all going to go out for breakfast, which will be fun. After that, we're going to go to the Humane Society where my mom volunteers to feed and otherwise take care of the animals there. It will be nice. :)

So anyone who knows BPAL knows Snake Oil. I got an imp of it in my last order just because it's so crazy popular I figured I'd try it eventually, and it has just been sitting around casually waiting its turn for testing. Today was it's day.

I smell like a hippie shop.

BUT IN A GOOD WAY.

I smell warm and resinous and sensuous and intoxicating. I love this stuff, and can now see why people flip out over it. I can see why there's a joke FAQ of "Do you sell Snake Oil in 55 gallon drums?" I WOULD TOTALLY BUY IT. This stuff is *that* amazing.

And it's supposed to get even better aged? SIGN ME UP.

So I received an unexpected gift of money a while back, which I decided to spend frivolously. Previous to this most recent order, I had only been ordering a small number of samples, so I gave myself permission to go crazy. And of course, all of this order was un-sniffed. Here's what I got!

5 mls of Samhain 09, Mircalla, The Girl, Raven Moon and Fairy Market, 5 imp packs and of course, the 20 free imps. Generously, of that order, three imps were for Hylke. XD

I have for the past week and a half, been working my way though having fun exploring the notes. I won't do full reviews for all I've tried so far, but I'll give some general impressions. I've only tries one of the 5 mls, the rest have been various imps.

Samhain 09 loves me, and I love it back. This scent just works on me. It is beautifully gorgeous and probably the best example of how a scent can morph as you wear it, seeing how the different notes rise and fall. It started smelling distinctly woody, rich and very cold, but the warmth of the spicy notes came out after a few hours wear. It was so wonderful.

The Dormouse (ordered) smelled of soap on me, topped with more soap, then disappeared in two hours. It displeased me.

The Tempest (ordered) smelled like a tame version of Szepasszony (which I love), also with little lasting power. This one will be going away.

Moving on.

A few I've tried has fallen into the "it's alright, I'll probably keep the imp around but doubt I'll order a bottle" category. Rapunzel (frimp), The Unicorn (frimp), Cheshire Cat (frimp), The Raven (ordered). That said, all of these were pretty light florals or citruses, so I think they'll be better for wear in the springtime.

I have loved Kabuki (ordered), Scherezade (ordered), Black Forest (ordered) and Blood Countess (frimp). Red musk seems to work well on me, but it also doesn't overpower the other notes in the blend. Though the musk note is the same in Kabuki, Fenris Wolf and Scherezade, I can also really smell a difference in how it interacts with the other notes though of three, Kabuki is my favorite. Blood Countess surprised me because gardenia is usually a huge turn off for me. All of these are going onto my bottle order list.

So I had a really good weekend. I slept so much, but I guess I needed the rest more than I thought I did. I have never been so refreshed on a Monday. Also, last night being the first full moon after the Autumn equinox, Hylke and I decided to celebrate of sorts. We made a nice dinner from scratch, something we need to do more often, and made small offering (wine, beer, the usual) and discuss our beliefs with each other. It was nice because it is not something we usually talk about. Not going to go into too much detail about that though, but it was nice. Just talking with him about stuff so important to us made me feel closer in our relationship, and just left me with a general sense of peacefulness and “it’s all going to be okay”. Which is unusual for me because I stress about everything.

Speaking of stressors, a lot are going to be going away soon, in the form of paid off medical bills. I’ve been paying $200 to $250 a month ($50 every Monday, so it depends on how the Mondays fall) for my visit to the E.R. a year and a half ago, and that will be paid of next month. This month, I make my last $80 payment to the dentist for some serious dental work I had to have done about 7 months ago. Last month was the last of paying $100.00 a month for both a separate doctor appointment related to the E.R. visit, and for my eye-doctor and those shiny new eyeglasses. On top of all of those, I have a couple monthly bills for lab fees , $25.00, and for the separate doctor fee for the E.R., $10.00, that I am still paying on, but will be able to pay larger amounts on as the other bills get paid off.

And on the more material side of things, this weekend was also pretty good. The espresso maker we ordered last week arrived, and we’ve been messing around with that. I got my new BPALs in and the ones I’ve tried, I’ve liked. Except for Maiden, which I love. And I still have one more to try! Hylke has tried most of his, and he seems to like them. I put in another order about 5 or 6 days ago, and I can’t wait until that one comes in. These last few orders have just been 3 to 6 imps, but I really went crazy with one order being 3 bottles, two Halloweens and a Gaimen, and 30 imps, then a few days later, I ordered this month’s lunacy and tacked on another of the Halloween limited editions. I have told myself no more until the Yules, with the exception of an imp pack that I am thinking of ordering as gifts for my family.

So yeah, good weekend. :)

I moved from Key West, Florida to a small town in Arkansas just weeks before my 12th birthday. Unfortunately, we couldn't bring our pet cat, Smokey. We hadn't had her for long, what little I can remember. She was a very soft gray, and I, being an unoriginal eleven year old, named her Smokey for it. My grandmother took her in when we had to move, and oddly enough, soon after that, no one used her real name, but started calling her Brenna-cat because they said she looked like me.

I have lived in Arkansas for around 13 years. I've visited Key West a few times while I lived here, and always made a point to go visit Brenna-cat, and see how she was doing. This last visit, I learned she wasn't doing well. She had gotten so very thin and tired.

I got the phone call today that she passed away yesterday. I don't really know what to say because this really is one of the very worst things about companion animals, knowing that this day will come. Thirteen years is a long time for a cat to live, especially one who has survived a few hurricanes. I know she was doing very badly those last few days, but knowing that helps so very little.

Goodbye Smokey, you were a great cat.
