So I finally heard back about the part time job, and I start on Monday! I'm only planning on working 20 hours during the semester, but I'm going to let them know that before classes start, I'm willing to work more hours and hopefully I'll get some extra time.

To celebrate, I ordered a bottle of perfume!

Muilearteach: Blood red, bone white, and pitch black musks coated in hoarfrost.

I'm a bit nervous about what composes the hoarfrost note, because usually aquatics and ozones don't work on me, but I love red and black musk and like white musk so I'm willing to give this one a shot, bottle unsniffed.

But in some sad perfume news, BPAL had to discontinue two of my favorites and one that I merely liked:

Fairy Market: Otherworldy golden incense, blooming wind-flowers, everlasting lavender, bluebell, a faint whiff of exotic sugared candies, and fae mist upon wet green grass

Niflheim: Dark, damp blossoms winding through an impenetrable, murky gloom

Luckily I have bottles of both, but it makes me sad that once they're gone, they're gone. :(

I have been so good about trying to not spend too much money on frivolous things since Hylke had his accidents. But people only have so much willpower. Yes, this means what you think it means, an order of about oh, $95 worth of perfume. That said, I'm actually kinda glad I folded when I did, because two limited editions I wanted to buy were in a series that ended tomorrow, but I thought it lasted longer. I got them just in time.

Because I'm sure you're dying to know what I bought )
So I've managed to get all of the Yules/Anniversaries/Resurrections that I want ordered, though it has taken three different orders. :P

I CAN QUIT RED MUSK ANY TIME I WANT TO, OKAY? )

So anyone who knows BPAL knows Snake Oil. I got an imp of it in my last order just because it's so crazy popular I figured I'd try it eventually, and it has just been sitting around casually waiting its turn for testing. Today was it's day.

I smell like a hippie shop.

BUT IN A GOOD WAY.

I smell warm and resinous and sensuous and intoxicating. I love this stuff, and can now see why people flip out over it. I can see why there's a joke FAQ of "Do you sell Snake Oil in 55 gallon drums?" I WOULD TOTALLY BUY IT. This stuff is *that* amazing.

And it's supposed to get even better aged? SIGN ME UP.

So I received an unexpected gift of money a while back, which I decided to spend frivolously. Previous to this most recent order, I had only been ordering a small number of samples, so I gave myself permission to go crazy. And of course, all of this order was un-sniffed. Here's what I got!

5 mls of Samhain 09, Mircalla, The Girl, Raven Moon and Fairy Market, 5 imp packs and of course, the 20 free imps. Generously, of that order, three imps were for Hylke. XD

I have for the past week and a half, been working my way though having fun exploring the notes. I won't do full reviews for all I've tried so far, but I'll give some general impressions. I've only tries one of the 5 mls, the rest have been various imps.

Samhain 09 loves me, and I love it back. This scent just works on me. It is beautifully gorgeous and probably the best example of how a scent can morph as you wear it, seeing how the different notes rise and fall. It started smelling distinctly woody, rich and very cold, but the warmth of the spicy notes came out after a few hours wear. It was so wonderful.

The Dormouse (ordered) smelled of soap on me, topped with more soap, then disappeared in two hours. It displeased me.

The Tempest (ordered) smelled like a tame version of Szepasszony (which I love), also with little lasting power. This one will be going away.

Moving on.

A few I've tried has fallen into the "it's alright, I'll probably keep the imp around but doubt I'll order a bottle" category. Rapunzel (frimp), The Unicorn (frimp), Cheshire Cat (frimp), The Raven (ordered). That said, all of these were pretty light florals or citruses, so I think they'll be better for wear in the springtime.

I have loved Kabuki (ordered), Scherezade (ordered), Black Forest (ordered) and Blood Countess (frimp). Red musk seems to work well on me, but it also doesn't overpower the other notes in the blend. Though the musk note is the same in Kabuki, Fenris Wolf and Scherezade, I can also really smell a difference in how it interacts with the other notes though of three, Kabuki is my favorite. Blood Countess surprised me because gardenia is usually a huge turn off for me. All of these are going onto my bottle order list.

So I had a really good weekend. I slept so much, but I guess I needed the rest more than I thought I did. I have never been so refreshed on a Monday. Also, last night being the first full moon after the Autumn equinox, Hylke and I decided to celebrate of sorts. We made a nice dinner from scratch, something we need to do more often, and made small offering (wine, beer, the usual) and discuss our beliefs with each other. It was nice because it is not something we usually talk about. Not going to go into too much detail about that though, but it was nice. Just talking with him about stuff so important to us made me feel closer in our relationship, and just left me with a general sense of peacefulness and “it’s all going to be okay”. Which is unusual for me because I stress about everything.

Speaking of stressors, a lot are going to be going away soon, in the form of paid off medical bills. I’ve been paying $200 to $250 a month ($50 every Monday, so it depends on how the Mondays fall) for my visit to the E.R. a year and a half ago, and that will be paid of next month. This month, I make my last $80 payment to the dentist for some serious dental work I had to have done about 7 months ago. Last month was the last of paying $100.00 a month for both a separate doctor appointment related to the E.R. visit, and for my eye-doctor and those shiny new eyeglasses. On top of all of those, I have a couple monthly bills for lab fees , $25.00, and for the separate doctor fee for the E.R., $10.00, that I am still paying on, but will be able to pay larger amounts on as the other bills get paid off.

And on the more material side of things, this weekend was also pretty good. The espresso maker we ordered last week arrived, and we’ve been messing around with that. I got my new BPALs in and the ones I’ve tried, I’ve liked. Except for Maiden, which I love. And I still have one more to try! Hylke has tried most of his, and he seems to like them. I put in another order about 5 or 6 days ago, and I can’t wait until that one comes in. These last few orders have just been 3 to 6 imps, but I really went crazy with one order being 3 bottles, two Halloweens and a Gaimen, and 30 imps, then a few days later, I ordered this month’s lunacy and tacked on another of the Halloween limited editions. I have told myself no more until the Yules, with the exception of an imp pack that I am thinking of ordering as gifts for my family.

So yeah, good weekend. :)

Got my second order in, ninja style! I didn’t realize Fairy Market was a Gaimen scent and thus not available in imp size ( /sadface ), so I got Fenris Wolk for Hylke instead. And he even wore it! *g* A few more times, and I’ll do a write up. It smells great on him though. (Rosewood, amber, red musk and a dribble of red sandalwood)

First I tried was The Hesperides (description is sturdy oak bark, dew-kissed leaves, twilight mist and crisp apple), and I was actually a bit disappointed. The apple smelled so artificial on me, and it seemed to overpower everything and the scent as a whole didn’t last so long. I am going to give it a couple more tries, see how it goes though, and I definitely want to age it a bit.

The frimp was Szepasszony (a chilly, tempestuous whirlwind of clear, airy notes, slashing rain, and a thin undercurrent of white flowers), which I’m excited about since it was on the list of ones I wanted to try anyway. That will be what I wear tomorrow.

Today, I’m wearing Fae
A brilliant, ethereal scent: white musk, bergamot, heliotrope, peach and oakmoss

In the Vial: Sweet, I’m really picking up the peach

Wet on Skin: Soft and powdery with a hint of the other notes behind the powder, not as sweet at wet in the vial.

Dry on Skin: The powder dominates when I actively smell where I applied it, but I’ll get a whiff of floral undertones, I’m guessing the heliotrope coming out, every once and a while. I notice as I’m typing this, the powder is fading more and the other notes are coming out.

Ethereal is very much the word for this scent; I love it. This will make a very good spring and summer scent, so it’s a shame I bought it as fall sets in, but I suppose now I have something to look forward to.

And of course, since I got this one in, I took that as a notice to put in another order, this time, I’m doing a full 6 Imp set. I’m getting The Bow & Crown of Conquest (for Hylke, also, epic name is epic), Bensiable (also for Hylke, to go with my Prunella), Black Phoenix, Event Horizon, Baobhan Sidh and Maiden.

So I got my BPAL order yestereday, complete with a free imp of Prunella. And of course, first thing I have to do is put one on. I went ahead and chose Antique Lace as Brisingamen was a bit too heavy and Swank seems more a weekend scent. I'm thinking I'll give Prunella shot today.

In the vial, it was almost overpowering vanilla, and the vanilla remained very strong wet and during the few hours of drydown I got, but it developed a kinda of powdery scent too. Overall, I like it and will wear it frequently, but I was hoping for something just a tad more floral, so I welcome any suggestions as to that.

Also, since this order came in, I am definitely going to be browsing my next three to order. *g* I think Fairy Market will be one; otherwise I tend to lean more towards fragrances probably more suitable for fall or winter, so I have to make myself pick out something light and summery for at lease this order.

Edit: I ordered Fae, Fairy Market and The Hesperides.

So I've heard of them for a while now, but never really bothered as I'm not a perfume person, but after seeing references too them so much from everywhere lately, I figured it was at least a hint, so I decided to look into BPAL a bit more. I figured it looks interest enough and ended up buying three Imp's Ears along with making a rather extensive list of other fragrances I'd like to try out.

Brisingamen
A glittering mantle of rich golden notes: five ambers, soft myrtle and apple blossom, myrtle, and carnation.

Why yes, I did order it just for the name. Why do you ask? *g*

Antique Lace
Nostalgia encapsulated. A soft, wistful blend of dry flowers, aged linens, and the faint breath of long-faded perfumes.

Seems rather more feminine than I usually am, so maybe that's what interested me about it enough to put it in my first order.

Swank
Simply cool, the essence of Lounge: the scent of a crisp pomegranate martini.

I read the description and knew it would be one I had to try.

I can't wait until they get here!
